General description of activities
The activity of the group was centered in the development of new synthetic protocols aimed at the preparation of active molecules, among which glycosides and, more recently, glycoconjugates such as glycolipids, have been object of our interest. The final goal is providing synthetic quantities of pure homogenous samples for glycochemistry and glycobiology studies. In this context we focused in the synthesis of new structures containing carbohydrates and in the study of the interactions with proteins and related receptors. For tackling this general objective we developed new reactions and new synthetic methods targeting the preparation of biologicaly active compounds and derivatives, which included reactions catalyzed by transition metals and by organic compounds, asymmetric synthesis, etc.
